What is Alpha?

Alpha is a national programme, run by local churches for over 30 years, which aims to provide answers to some of the big questions about life from a Christian perspective.

We focus on the person of Jesus Christ—what he did, what he said, and why that is important for our lives today in the 21st Century.

The course allows you to explore his message for yourself in an open and relaxed atmosphere. There is no pressure whatsoever for you to make any particular choices.

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for anyone, from any location, with questions about life
Is there more to life than this?
Does God exist?
‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’
‘Is there life after death?’
‘Why COVID?’
and is open to anyone of any level of faith, doubt or unbelief.

What’s the format?

Each Alpha session will start with a video focusing on the topic for the evening.

This will be followed by a facilitated group discussion where you will have the opportunity to discuss issues that are on your mind or simply just listen to the thoughts of others in your group.

This combination of some input from a talk combined with the chance to engage in group discussion provides a good environment for you to evaluate things for yourself.

Where – ONLINE

Join us on Zoom from the comfort of your own home or from wherever you happen to be.  For those who have not used Zoom before, just let us know and we will show you how to use this before the start of the first session.

Thursday evenings starting on 21st January 2021 (with a break for half term on 18th February).  There are eight evening sessions plus an optional session on Saturday 13th March.  Download the course programme
We will encourage people to log on between 7.45—8.00pm so that everyone will be connected and settled before we start the session at 8.00pm.  We aim to finish around 9.15pm.

How much is it?

There is no charge for the course.

Do I need to sign up?

What have others said about Alpha?

You would not have found me anywhere near an Alpha Course.  But I hit rock bottom and decided to come. It has transformed my life.”

I thought Alpha might help me get the answers I needed.  It did!

My life seemed to have little purpose. I ended up on an Alpha course.  It restored my purpose in life, my relationship with God and relationships with other people that I had let go.”

Watch interview with someone who came to Alpha last year.
