CHRISTMAS 2020 – Comfort and Joy

Christmas 2020 is going to be very different for most of us.  However, the wonderful news of the birth of Jesus is unchanging and we’re here to share it with you, in a number of different ways.

We trust you’ll understand that we can’t do things in the way everybody would like and that some aspects of our offerings (such as the music) will seem a bit different this year, so please bear with us!  Please check here regularly for the latest news on our church services, and the social distancing arrangements that will be in line with current government guidelines. Please note that inside church masks must be worn and singing is not permitted, so there are also online services to watch and sing along to at home.

To book any live church services and Zooms please contact the office before noon on 23rd December.  Email or Tel 01564 779123.  Please read this information about services in church before booking.

The theme for this year at Knowle Parish Church and across the Church of England is “Comfort and Joy”.  It reminds us all that in anxious and sad times we can find comfort and hope from the care we show one another, from our wider community and from the love of God in Jesus.  If you would like to have specific prayer or need help, then please contact our Prayer Ministry team on 01564 779123 or email

Please join us on the KPC YouTube channel to share in our online Christmas services that you can watch safely at home – either live streamed or at a later date.

Sundays 6th, 13th and 20th December  6pm:  “The Quest of the Wise Guys” – three special Advent services on the journey to Christmas, led by the young people of Knowle Parish Church.

Sunday 13th December  4pm:  Our Blue Christmas service is especially suitable for the many in our community who are finding this Christmas difficult for a variety of reasons. While others are celebrating, we may be feeling the pain of illness, loneliness, grief, anxiety or other sadness. This service will, we hope, bring special words of comfort to you. The service will be available at that time or to watch later on the KPC YouTube channel.

Wednesday 16th December  8pm:  Christmas Carol Service (pre-recorded).  Our popular Christmas Carol service will feature favourite festive music and readings.  Join in at home on the KPC YouTube channel and sing along to the carols!

Sunday 20th December  4pm and 7.30pm  Live Christmas Carol Services will be held in church (booking essential), and also streamed at 4pm on the KPC YouTube channel . Because of COVID restrictions, masks must be worn and we’re sorry that those in church will not be able to sing.  Do join in online instead though if you’re a keen carol-singer!

On Christmas Eve at 11.30 pm, we are planning a short outdoor service to be held on the grass between Knowle Parish Church and Kenilworth Road.  This will be a spoken service, socially-distanced and subject to the great British weather!  If you plan to come, do wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear as it may be wet or muddy underfoot. You may like to bring a candle along to add a little extra light to the event!

Please note: If we have to cancel this service due to bad weather it will be announced here on the website.

This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Celebrate with us the good news of the birth of Jesus! Our Christmas Day Communion Service will be held at 10am in church, in line with current government health guidelines. Masks must be worn and singing will not be permitted in church (so it might be best to join in at home online if you’re a keen singer!)

The service will be live streamed on the KPC YouTube channel and also into St John’s Hall where family ‘bubbles’ can book to be seated at distanced tables.

Booking: For both the church service and the event at St John’s Hall, booking is essential.

Get out of the house, away from the mince pies and into a fun interactive activity around Knowle!  Our Nativity Trail is available from 19th to 24th December.  It begins at St John’s Hall (next to Church) and continues to five other locations in the village.  At each location you’ll find a picture from the Nativity story, and a letter to collect that will form a word by the end of the trail.  There is a QR code to use and you can download the trail map here.  Once you’ve visited all six locations, gathered your letter clues and worked out the word, send it to Sarah/Lizzie and prizes will be given after Christmas!

Sunday 20th December 9.30am:  Live Christmas Fun on Zoom

24th December 3.30pm and 4.30pm:  Christmas Eve Crib Services live on Zoom
