Our Vision

Staff team 2023

Knowle derives from the Saxon 'Cnolle' which means a small hill. Jesus tells us that the church is like a city built on a hill. A town built on a hill cannot avoid being seen. Our vision at KPC is: to let our light shine at the village centre as “A house of God’s light for all peoples and generations.”
We aspire to be a beacon demonstrating the goodness of God and gathering people to taste of his love and experience Christian community.

night church

We have the great gift of the light and love of Christ to give others, so rather than being ashamed of this, our vision is to be confident ambassadors. We don’t believe that God is a secret to be kept. We want to be living our lives in the way Jesus lived his; to shine (not so people will admire us but) so they’ll be led to search for the source of that light and find their way to God.

We are not an exclusive, cosy club of culturally like-minded people. We are not only for one age demographic. So, we are trying, with God’s help, to build a place of friendship, connection and inclusion where people enjoy being together and encountering God. For over 650 years, our church has been a place where people have come to open their hearts to God, to share lives and seek strength, hope and comfort. Our vision is to adapt our church interior to make it fit for purpose for our mission over the next 100 years, helping us continue to be a lively, growing congregation with energy and passion to serve its locality.

All lights receive their light from somewhere. We receive light from Jesus. The light we show is a reflected light. For us, worship is the place where we expose ourselves to God’s light and love. It’s where we receive afresh the life of Christ. Our vision puts being a beating heart of worship as our first and foremost calling.
We believe God is calling us to be generous in giving away what we’ve received. Larger churches are entrusted with resources and responsibilities for a wider area than simply their own locality. Our calling is to be a blessing to Knowle, the deanery and wider world. Our vision is to be a church of global concern and responsibility.

Will you join us in this Kingdom business of individual and community transformation? Changing lives, changing neighbourhoods, changing the environment. Come and be a part of our house of God’s light.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

Whether you are thinking of coming to church for the first time because you are interested in exploring faith,  whether you’re new to the area and looking for a church, or whether you’re investigating baptism or marriage, you are really welcome. Our vision is to be “A house of God’s light for all peoples and generations,” and we really hope you’ll get to experience some of that light.

You’ll find we have different styles of services that reflect our diverse congregation. Click here to find out which of our services might suit you.  When you arrive you should be met by a member of our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome badge. Please do make yourself known to them so that they can let you have a Welcome Pack and, if you like, can introduce you to someone to sit next to in the service.

What is there for my children?
If you are coming along with children, you might find our 9.30 Family Service most suitable.  Most weeks, the children start in the church with their accompanying adult (we really value worshipping God altogether as an inter-generational community.) After around 15 minutes, children go out to their own Sunday groups. More details of these age groups can be found on our Children and Young People page. On the first Sunday of the month, we hold either an All Age or All In service.

How do I get to know people in such a big church?
While you will get to know some people if you come to a church service, it is often at smaller gatherings which happen during the week that you will get to know people better.  Click here to read about the other groups which run during the week and here for activities that go on at the church.

How can I get involved?
Click here to read about the many ways in which you can get involved in the life of the church. Getting involved is another great way of way of getting to know people. We’d love KPC to be a church where we grow spiritually by contributing.

We hope very much that you will like what you taste and soon feel at home in our church.

Best wishes,
Geoff Lanham, Vicar
