A builder was recently doing some work on the house of a friend of mine. They got chatting and it turned out that this builder’s life was full of such significant challenges that my friend asked him:
"What is it that keeps you going?"
How would you answer that question? Whether life is full of challenges at the moment or bumbling along quite well, it’s a question worth pondering. What is it that keeps us going, that helps us get up in the morning? In digital terminology we might ask, ‘what is your operating system?’
For your computer or phone it might be Windows, Android or iOS; for many of us it might be a morning coffee, or a need to make more money. Or perhaps it’s wanting to impress others or conversely to not let people down. The builder replied that what kept him going was because he had two children that loved him and needed him – it gave him the drive he needed.
It is these core beliefs that help us flourish and thrive. They form our operating system and how we view the world. They are imbedded into us at an early age and are shaped by formative influences at various stages, but often there comes a time in life where we need to pause, take stock and ask the question – what is my operating system and does it need an update? Is there a different way of looking at the world? One that brings more hope, peace and purpose?
For the Christian, we view life through the lens of Jesus. Who he is, what he’s done and how we relate to him changes everything. If you want to explore this further we’d love to chat, over a coffee, pint or walk – whatever works for you. Or play the video link below and explore the 321 course – it’s a great, simple and short way to begin discovering life according to Jesus.
